A Dancing Classes 'Did-you-know?' - Viennese Waltz – this is almost the same as the Waltz but this waltz is more rapid with continuous circling around the room.  The Viennese Waltz is the classic, old, original waltz. A waltzing couple rotate around each other as they fly gracefully around the room. A Dancing Classes 'Did-you-know?' - Polka – this is a quick and lively dance that was introduced by in the Czech Republic. There are many versions of this dance and the version in the United States involves less turning.  Characteristically polka couples circle the ballroom, often at reckless speeds, using a simple step, close, step, and hop technique.  The music is in 2/4 time with a strong, defining upbeat.  Because of polkas long history it has acquired many terms and phrases, essentially its own vocabulary, contributing to the size of this cultural icon.  The polka continued to be danced in the 20th century but less commonly than the fox-trot and latter forms.

A Dancing Classes 'Did-you-know?' -  Foxtrot – when people think of foxtrot, they associate it with smooth dancing. This is a favorite among men because the dance is simply like walking or strolling.   The foxtrot is a ballroom dance named after its originator, Harry Fox, who developed the dance in 1914 for his vaudeville act. The original version is quite fast, and is actually more similar to the Quickstep as it is now judged in International ballroom competitions.
